Wanaka’s outstanding natural beauty attracts visitors from all around the world and it rightly earns the title of one of the most beautiful towns in New Zealand, overlooking Lake Wanaka and with views of the Southern Alps and Mount Aspiring National Park.

There is plenty to do winter or summer. Enjoy hiking, mountain biking, watersports and snowsports, or why not just stroll the streets, be inspired by the local galleries, browse the boutique shops and savour a great selection of cafes and restaurants.

Maungawera Lodge is ideally situated just 10 minutes’ drive from Wanaka.  Within easy access of Central Otago, the Southern Lakes, Mount Aspiring National Park, Fiordland National Park and West Coast World Heritage Park. Many lifetimes could be spent exploring this wide-ranging, remote and varied terrain.

The Hawea River is only 10 minutes’ walk from the Lodge. Lake Hawea and Lake Wanaka are only 10 minutes’ drive away and if you love fishing you will find both the lakes and the river are well stocked with trout and some landlocked salmon.

Take a scenic flight to Milford Sound, Mount Cook or Mount Aspiring or book the amazing Siberia Experience: a scenic flight, bushwalk, and jetboat safari in four action-packed hours. Take a 25-minute flight in a fixed-wing aircraft. Enjoy stunning views capturing the rugged beauty of New Zealand’s World Heritage National Park including glaciers, ice, snow, mountain lakes, hanging valleys, vast rain forests.

Experience some of the spectacular and accessible walking tracks in the region such as Rob Roy Glacier, Mt Roy, Diamond Lake or the shorter Outlet Track and Mt Iron among others.

Enjoy the adrenaline-fuelled activities available in local Queenstown, including the bungy jump, luge, Ecozip line or jet boats, or for a more laid-back experience ask us about the local vineyards and breweries. Try Wild Wire Wanaka via ferrata, get up close and personal with historic fighter planes at Warbirds and Wheels or take the kids to Puzzling World. Visit Cardrona and enjoy a pub lunch at the historic Cardrona Hotel, a platter and whisky at the Cardrona Distillery, or experience a horse trek or quadbiking adventure in Cardrona Valley, or cross-country ski at Snow Farm.
